Oooooh, Friday Five! 2003-07-26 - 10:22 a.m.
I know, I know. I'm supposed to be doing something useful now. But I clicked on golfwidow's banner and noticed the Friday Five, so here they are:
1. If your life were a movie, what would the title be?
This is something my sister said, but I think it fits nicely:
The Dangerous Lives of Band Geeks
;)
2. What songs would be on the soundtrack?
Ooooooooooooh. This may end up being a two CD set, because
-we have eight years of marching band music to choose from
-we have to start with the obligatory "Let's Go Band!"
-there has to be a scene where our heroine is sitting and being all mopey to Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here"
-Blind Melon's "No Rain" has to make an appearance, probably in the opening credits
-the Mozart Flute Concerto in G Major has to be in there somewhere
-our heroine's attempts to be normal (by sitting on the soccer bus and singing Boyz II Men's (sp?) "End of the Road") have to be highlighted by the appropriate song
-our heroine's collegiate love of "being random" should be highlighted by let's say maybe Green Day's "Basket Case"
-the senior flute recital should make an appearance, with all the musical content therein
-and last but not least, no movie about yours truly is complete without "Bohemian Rhapsody" :)
3. Would it be a live-action film or animated? Why?
Live-action, of course. I'm sorry to say (get ready to throw stuff at me all you uber-hip cartoon-watching people out there), but with the exception of recent prime time network cartoons (The Simpsons, etc.), cartoons really hold no interest for me at this stage of my life.
4. Casting: who would play you, members of your family, friends, etc?
Me: Gaby Hoffmann (I almost said Natalie Portman, but eh. Eh.)
Punkathena (my sister): the Olsen twins
My dad: Chevy Chase, just to be ironic (because on family vacations when I was a kid he'd always say "The Griswolds are going to (insert place name here)!"
My mom: Karen Black
My old friend Sheryl: this other girl from our high school that everyone confused her with
Jenn-of-the-granny-car: Leelee Sobieski
My middle school band director: Dabney Coleman (is that that guy's name?)
Bill Clinton: himself
Hillary Clinton: herself
Joaquin Phoenix: himself
Ben & Jerry: themselves
Gee Dubya: a monkey
5. Describe the movie preview/trailer.
A frizzy-haired fourth grader sits in the elementary school auditorium watching the fifth grade band play. She is especially interested in the flutes in the front row. Cue "No Rain". Then, with the music still playing, fast forward to a college senior flute recital. The camera pans around from behind and looks out over the audience, who starts clapping when the heroine is finished playing. You see her smile. Then, simply the title of the movie comes up on the screen.
