The dinging of the jar is a good idea, but your only supposed to gently ding the LID, like on the edge of the counter or such. And here's another one, take a sturdy spoon and wedge it under the lid. It should pop the seal for you. That is if it's a new jar of pickles. Good Luck. i can't imagine having a jar of pickles and not being able to eat one, :(

wrapping a rubber band--a hair one, but one from the newspaper type--around it often gives the traction needed. Might try that next time.
